<h2>[Bonsancaj, Chapter 4: Mad Kelsun - Part 2, Approach]</h2>A druid of the Circle of Monto requested that the Bonsancaj retrieve a treasure hidden by the mad wizard Kelsun.The following morning, they travel south of Temmerill and then east over rolling hills and eventually camp for the first night. The next morning they cautiously approach a cave entrance at the base of the Ombrita Bluffs across a streambank. They find a couple of hobgoblins on guard and do their best to sneak up on them.Their initial attacks are a mixed success, knocking out one hobgoblin, while the other blows a horn blast and takes cover at the cave entrance. A voice shouts from within and soon multiple bugbears appear, firing their longbows. They also use some healing and other defensive measures like Pen casting Mirror Image and Mirri transforming into a Giant Ape. The hobgoblin captain decides he has had enough and calls for his group to retreat north along the cliff’s edge.As the remaining hobgoblins and bugbears flee, a few more attacks are exchanged and a couple more of the hobgoblins are killed. The Bonsancaj watch to make sure they aren’t coming back. They clean up the fight scene, stacking bodies and looting them as they go.Then they take some time to rest, bandage wounds, and discuss why the hobgoblins and bugbears were there, wondering if they were after the same treasure. After a short rest, Rufus scouts the area but he doesn’t see any sign of the others returning.They turn their attention to the cave, scouting once more with Rufus before entering. Dalien keeps watch outside the cave, while Mirri, Pen, and Timlan search for anything of note. Pen casts Darkvision to see better in the dark chamber. They find that the previous crew had set up living spaces, sleeping areas, and a storage space with dried food stores and a variety of weapons and armor. Hidden behind a stone, they find four gems, a couple of crystal lenses, and a pearl. In one of the sleeping areas, Pen finds some surprisingly high-quality bracers with arrow designs embossed on them. Most of the weaponry is of average quality, but one longsword seems to be a grade above the rest. Pen uses Detect Magic and finds that several of these items have an aura of magic: the crystal lenses, pearl, bracers, and longsword. Timlan uses Message to call Dalien into the cave and Rufus takes over his watch. Pen suggests that Dalien try the longsword and Mirri tries out the bracers. Next they turn their attention to a shaft that leads straight down at the back of the cave.
